Product description
Benzyl alcohol is an aromatic alcohol having the formula C 6 H 5 CH 2 OH. Benzyl is generally abbreviated as & quot; Bn & quot; (not confused with & quot; Bz & quot; for benzoyl), so benzyl alcohol is represented by BnOH. Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid with a mild aromatic odor. It is a useful solvent due to its polarity, low toxicity and low vapor pressure. The benzyl alcohol was partially dissolved in water (4 g / 100 mL) and completely miscible with ether and ether.
Benzyl alcohol is naturally produced by many plants, usually found in fruits and tea. Also found a variety of essential oils, including jasmine, hyacinth and ylang Lun. It is also one of the compounds found in castor. This compound is collected from the beaver food.
Benzyl alcohol has almost the same refractive index as quartz and wool fibers. If the transparent quartz object immersed in benzyl alcohol, it is almost invisible. This is used as a method of non-destructive identification of objects made by true quartz (see crystal skull). Likewise, white wool immersed in benzyl alcohol is almost invisible and clearly reveals contaminants such as dark and medullary fibers and plant matter
Benzyl alcohol is only a mild acute toxin, rat LD50 of 1.2 g / kg. It is rapidly oxidized to benzoic acid in healthy individuals, conjugated to glycine in the liver, and excreted as hippuric acid. Very high concentrations may cause toxic effects, including respiratory failure, vasodilatation, hypotension, convulsions and paralysis.
Benzyl alcohol is toxic to newborns, which is associated with asthma syndrome. Benzyl alcohol has been reported to cause skin irritation. Benzyl alcohol is severely toxic and irritating to eyes. Benzyl alcohol produces corneal necrosis. Benzyl alcohol is not considered to be a carcinogen and no data can be used for teratogenic or reproductive effects.
Product application
Benzyl alcohol is produced naturally by many plants and is commonly found in fruits and teas. It is also found in a variety of essential oils including jasmine, hyacinth, and ylang-ylang.It is also one of the chemical compounds found in castoreum. This compound is gathered from the beaver plant food.
Benzyl alcohol has nearly the same refraction index of quartz and wool fibre. If a clear quartz object is immersed in benzyl alcohol, it becomes almost invisible. This has been used as a method to non-destructively recognize if an object is made of true quartz or not (see crystal skull). Similarly, white wool immersed in benzyl alcohol also becomes almost invisible clearly revealing contaminants such as dark and medullated fibres and vegetable matter.
Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid that has a mild, pleasant aromatic scent. It's also called an "aromatic alcohol," and is used as a preservative, as a fragrance ingredient, as the active ingredient in head lice treatment, and as a solvent, which simply means that it's used to dissolve other ingredients to make a smooth formula or solution.
Synthesis
Benzyl alcohol can be used as an ointment preservative, fiber desiccant, nylon and plastic film, PVC stabilizer, photographic developer, cellulose acetate solvent, ink, paint, paint, epoxy paint, dye, casein, gelatin, shellac And intermediates to produce benzyl esters or ethers. It can also be used in the preparation of spices and flavoring agents (mainly fatty acid benzyl alcohol), can be used as soap, perfume, cosmetics and other products additives.
Since quartz and wool fibers have an almost equal refractive index, they can be used to identify them. Also used as a fixative and diluent in theperfume industry. The hydroxyl of benzyl alcohol is very lively. It can react with benzene to produce diphenylmethane and react with acrylonitrile to form N-benzylacrylamide (Ritter reaction). It can also react with halogenated halides and halogen acids to form benzyl halides. Benzyl halide and benzyl alcohol are benzylated (benzyl) reagents. It can be used as a benzyl protecting group for carboxylic acids and alcoholic hydroxyl groups. The benzyl protecting group can be easily removed by hydrogenation. In addition, benzyl alcohol can be easily oxidized to benzoic acid by various oxidizing agents. If nitric acid is used, it can be oxidized to aldehydes or acids at different concentrations and at different temperatures.
While taking penicillin injection, benzyl alcohol is always used as an anesthetic to prevent pain in patients, in this case, the pain will not be too strong. So benzyl alcohol is also known as "painless water". However, the common clinical side effects are: hip disease. This is because benzyl alcohol is not easily absorbed by the body. It will accumulate in the injection site for a long time and cause necrosis of the surrounding muscles. In severe cases, it may affect bone growth. In 2005, the State Food and Drug Administration ordered the use of benzyl alcohol as a penicillin injection solvent.
Usage
Benzyl alcohol is widely used as a solvent for the dielectrophoretic reconfiguration of nanowires, inks, paints, lacquers and epoxy resin coatings and as a precursor to a variety of esters used in soaps, perfumes and flavoring. It is employed as a local anesthetic which reduces the pain associated with lidocaine injection. It has a various applications in baby products, bath products, soaps and detergents, eye makeup, blushers, cleansing products, make up products as well as hair, nail and skin care products.
